On
the news tonight was a story that said the citizens
of Columbus were petitioning their cities to establish
a charge of $35/mo to pick up their garbage, but recycling
was free. As you jotted the contact number down the
broadcaster said something about Neighborhood Recycling
Coordinators being trained in certain areas.
One day
Jim, your neighbor, calls. Jim is the Neighborhood
Recycling Coordinator in your area. He invites you
to a meeting at his house. When you arrive for the
meeting you notice that Jim’s house has been
significantly remodeled and refurnished. He takes
you and your neighbors on a tour talking about how
he has a way to recycle everything, quickly and efficiently.
He points out the coffee table in his living room
where he sorts his mail into white paper, newspapers
and everything else. He shows you a drawer by his
sink where he keeps cans, plastic bottles and other
recyclables separate from kitchen waste. There are
many other convenient systems which you will learn
about when you read the New Recycling Story.
