You
want to transfer volunteer energy to efficiently plan
events, ask for money and sell your program. At Chimorel
our constituents are our volunteers. By getting the
people you serve, excited and enthusiastically involved,
you build a powerful base of support.
Everyday
you are asked to pay for what you get. Transfer paying
for what you get to your fund raising efforts. When
you donate $10 for diapers, the children grow up healthier
and their mother isn't "forced" to steal diapers
from the Dollar store. When ten people buy Starter memberships,
one family can put a $500 deposit on the apartment they
need. They can move out of the homeless shelter. They
may get welfare briefly and start the process to get
a stable job.
Ask
your volunteers why they give. What motivates them to
buy Girl Scout Cookies, pledge to United Way or why
they became a member with Chimorel. When they give,
what is the sizzle for the steak you are selling?
Respect
your volunteers' and donors' time. As your fund raising
takes shape, focus your effort as efficiently as possible
and have fun. Sell two Starter memberships instead of
400 25 cent raffle tickets to raise $100. Ask the bank
to become a $1000 corporate sponsor instead of a $100
donation. Teach the bank officer all the benefits they
recieve as a corporate sponsor, then involve 25 new
members in fund raising for the Special Project to provide
housing. Introduce the banker to Chimorel's Work for
Rent program and help get the loan for new apartments.
